Beware of Pirates! ProMusica Arizona is moving full speed ahead preparing for it's next exciting production, The Pirates of Penzance on April 20, 21 & 22 at Boulder Creek Performing Arts Center. Keeping with the "pirate" theme, PMAZ is holding an online benefit auction, "Bidding for Treasure" April 6-29 to help raise money to support PMAZ's important mission of bringing quality music programming to our community. The PMAZ Auction Committee is now in the acquisition mode of goods, services, unique experiences, travel points or miles, vacation homes, timeshare vacations, cruises, etc. to package into fabulous auction items.
The deadline for application for the PMAZ Orchestral Conducting MasterClass has been extended to February 17th to allow additional applicants to participate. The class provides an opportunity for conductors to sharpen, develop, and hone their conducting skills and artistic musical interpretation. Dr. Lawrence Golan will coach and guide each participant in artistic interpretation of the music, refining their physical gesture to reflect that interpretation, and getting the most out of the rehearsal process. Kevin Kozacek, PMAZ Co-Artistic Director says, "I have studied with Lawrence Golan, and $250 for the opportunity to stand on the podium in front of a full orchestra and receive constructive critique and instruction in the art of conducting from a true national Maestro is an incredible opportunity not to be misseed." Other topics will provide valuable information in such areas as tuning and balance, which will help both experienced and new conductors reach their full potential.
The Arizona Centennial Foundation recognized the PMAZ Celebrating Arizona's Centennial concert as an official event in recognition of 100 years of statehood. ProMusica Arizona was privileged to be part of a full calendar of events taking place around the state commemorating Arizona’s rich history, culture, and natural wonders. The PMAZ concert featured music that celebrated the diversity of Arizona's history since becoming a state on February 14, 1912. It included the performance of two pieces commissioned by The Arizona Commission for the Arts for that special occasion for orchestra and choir.
