ProMusica Arizona Chorale and Orchestra ended its Fall 2005 season on a high note. The holiday concerts on December 16th and 17th were performed to nearly sellout audiences at the Boulder Creek High School Performing Arts Center. Orchestra ensembles entertained guests as they mingled in the lobby prior to the performance. Pamela Gorman, State Representative, Arizona House of Representatives, introduced the Friday night concert and announced the receipt by ProMusica of two grants from the Arizona Commission on the Arts. These grants will assist PMA to bring music to the north valley.
Artistic Director, Kevin Kozacek began the concert conducting the choir and chamber orchestra in Vivaldi's "Gloria". This classic baroque-style piece is similar to Handel's "Messiah", though not as widely performed. Generally performed by either a choir or orchestra, the audience received a special treat in hearing "Gloria" performed by both at the same time. The 12 movements included a duet performed by Connie Henry and Cindy Lange and solos by Susan Starbuck, Connie Henry and Brenda Woods.
Intermission followed with more music from the orchestra ensembles while guests mingled in the lobby, enjoying refreshments and the merriment of the season. Following intermission, the full orchestra performed a medley of holiday favorites. The choir returned with more holiday medleys and enjoyed performances by the AZDance Group. To end the evening, Director/Conductor Kevin Kozacek invited the audience to join in singing some traditional holiday favorites.
Patron receptions at the home of Cathy and Bob Egan on Friday night and Maria Grimmelman on Saturday night capped the weekend.
ProMusica Arizona wishes you all a joyous New Year! Come join us again at the Anthem Festival of Fine Arts on January 7th, 2006 at the Anthem Community Center and be sure to reserve the date for our spring concert on March 31st and April 1st at the Boulder Creek Performing Arts Center for "Cowboys, Country and Copland". PMAZ will be joined by the Sierra Vista Children's Choir and local dance groups for a rousing evening of entertainment appropriate for fun-loving people of all ages!
