NORTH VALLEY – Marcie Kolacki is being honored for her dedication to her music.

This 11-year-old cellist travels from her home in Glendale to Anthem's Boulder Creek High School  every Monday evening to rehearse with the ProMusica Arizona Chorale & Orchestra. She performs with ProMusica Arizona , enhancing and sharing her musical talents.

Marcie wrote about her musical experiences and how they have bettered her life in a statewide essay contest sponsored by the Arizona Alliance for the Arts. Out of 156 entrants, Marcie produced the winning essay at the elementary school level and was recognized at the 2008 Arts Congress held on Feb. 3 on the grounds of the Arizona State Capitol. She met with Arizona Commission on the Arts Executive Director Robert Booker and District 6 State Representatives Doug Clark and Sam Crump. Marcie received a certificate of merit and a $150 check to her Copperwood Elementary School Arts program. Marcie's winning speech was met with applause and congratulations by the entire Arts Congress.

Since the Deer Valley Unified School District does not offer an orchestra program for string players, ProMusica Arizona provides an option for talented student string players in the north valley area who meet the audition criteria. ProMusica Arizona is one of the few community music organizations in the country that includes talented young students as it is part of ProMusica Arizona 's mission to bring music opportunities to people of all ages in the North Valley , not only as audience members but also as performers.

Approximately 10 percent of PMAZ members are students, and performers' ages vary from fifth grade to senior citizens. Membership is by audition only with Artistic Director and Conductor Kevin Kozacek ; singers and musicians interested in performing with PMAZ can contact Kevin Kozacek through www.promusicaaz.org.

Currently members of the orchestra and chorale are rehearsing for ProMusica Arizona 's next hit concert “Broadway Blast.” To be performed March 14 and 15, the show will feature music from Broadway musicals such as “Cats,”  “Phantom of the Opera,” “Sound of Music,” “Oklahoma,”  “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and other music hits from MGM movies like ‘Singing In the Rain.' Tickets are on sale now and are selling fast. Concerts are held at the Boulder Creek Performing Arts Center, 40404 N. Gavilan Peak Pkwy.  Performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

Advance sale tickets prices begin at $10 for students and $15 for adults. Tickets at the door are $12 and $18. Advance sale tickets can be purchased by cash or check at Andrew Z Fine Diamonds and Jewelry, 3655 W. Anthem Way; Deer Valley Credit Union, 3428 W.
